Terms of Service
These are the terms that apply when you order from Good Parent. We've kept them short and readable, because you have better things to do. By signing up or placing an order, you're agreeing to them.
What we do
Good Parent is a farm-to-lunchbox children's lunch delivery service in Santa Barbara, California. We prepare fresh, organic lunches each morning — sourced largely from local farms — pack them in a reusable lunchbox, and deliver them to your door before the school day. We also offer optional add-ons for grown-ups, like pressed juice and oat lattes.
We deliver within our Santa Barbara service area on scheduled delivery days. If your address falls outside that area, we'll let you know before you're charged.
Your account
You need to be 18 or older to create an account. Please keep your account information accurate — especially your delivery address, your phone number, and your child's food allergies. We rely on what you tell us, and we can't be responsible for problems caused by out-of-date or incorrect information.
Subscriptions and billing
- Meal plans are weekly subscriptions. Your card is charged automatically each week, in advance of that week's deliveries.
- Prices are shown at checkout before you confirm. If we ever change prices, we'll tell you by email before it takes effect.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We don't store your full card number.
- Add-ons like juice and lattes bill on the same weekly cycle as your meal plan.
- If a payment fails, we'll try again and let you know. Deliveries may pause until payment goes through.
- Sales tax is added where required by California law.
Skipping, pausing, and canceling
No contracts, no cancellation fees. You can pause or cancel your subscription any time from your account or by emailing us.
Because we buy produce and prep food ahead of time, we need a little notice:
- Skip a day or pause a week: let us know by 6:00 PM the day before the delivery you want to skip.
- Cancel your subscription: cancel at least 48 hours before your next weekly billing date to avoid being charged for the coming week.
- Cancellations take effect at the end of the week you've already paid for — you'll still get the meals you were charged for.
- Weeks already prepped and charged aren't refundable, but if something goes wrong with a meal, tell us and we'll make it right.
School holidays and breaks: we'll usually pause automatically and let you know, but it's worth checking your schedule in your account.
Delivery
- We deliver in the early morning on your scheduled delivery days, before the school day starts.
- Photo confirmation: our driver takes a photo of your lunchbox at your door for every delivery. You'll get it by text, and it's saved in your account. That photo is our record that the delivery was completed.
- Please make sure your drop-off spot is accessible — gates unlocked, codes current, dogs accounted for. If we can't reach your door, we'll text you and leave the lunch in the safest spot available.
- Once a lunch is delivered and photographed, it's in your care. We can't be responsible for meals left outside too long, taken by others, or affected by weather after drop-off.
- If a delivery is missed or late because of something on our end, tell us and we'll credit or replace it.
Lunchbox returns
Lunchboxes and containers are reusable and remain the property of Good Parent — they're loaned to you, not sold.
- Please leave the empty lunchbox out at your usual drop-off spot on your next delivery morning. We swap it for the fresh one.
- Rinsing it is appreciated but not required — we wash and sanitize everything in our kitchen.
- Normal wear and tear is expected and fine. If a lunchbox is lost or badly damaged, we may charge a replacement fee, which we'll tell you about first.
- When you cancel, please return any lunchboxes you still have on your final delivery day, or let us know and we'll arrange a pickup.
Food, allergies, and safety
We prepare food in a shared kitchen that handles common allergens including nuts, dairy, eggs, wheat, soy, and sesame. We cannot guarantee any meal is free of cross-contact. Tell us about your child's allergies when you sign up and keep them updated — we'll do everything we reasonably can to accommodate them, but if an allergy is severe, please use your own judgment about whether our service is right for your family.
Meals are made fresh the same morning and are best eaten the day they're delivered. Ingredients and menus can change based on what our farm partners have available.
Text messages
By providing your mobile number, you consent to receive text messages from Good Parent about your service — delivery notifications, photo confirmations, meal feedback requests, and weekly menu updates. Consent to receive texts is not a condition of purchase.
Message frequency varies based on your delivery schedule, typically 2–4 messages per delivery day. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for assistance. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle your number — we never sell or share it with third parties.
Using the site and apps
Please use our website and apps for their intended purpose. Don't try to break into them, scrape them, disrupt them, or use them to harm anyone. Our name, logo, photos, recipes, and site content belong to Good Parent — please don't reuse them without asking.
Limitation of liability
We do our best, but we're a small business and we can't promise perfection. To the fullest extent allowed by law:
- Our service is provided "as is," without warranties beyond those required by law.
- We're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages — for example, lost time, missed school lunches, or knock-on costs from a late or missed delivery.
- Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 30 days before the claim arose.
Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited, including for gross negligence or willful misconduct. Some states don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We'll update the effective date above and email you about anything significant. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Santa Barbara County, California.
